Itinerary
Welcome on board with JainVoyagers Group — your South Island road voyage is curated with comfort-first driving legs, scenic stops, and flexible pacing so every day feels smooth, safe and memorable.
Day 1 — Arrive Christchurch: Collect your vehicle and settle into Christchurch with an easy city loop. Use the afternoon for the Botanic Gardens or a gentle riverside walk to reset. Stock up on road essentials, snacks and water so you’re ready for the open road. Evening is relaxed with early rest recommended.
Day 2 — Christchurch → Lake Tekapo: Drive south through wide plains, stopping for coffee and viewpoints to keep the journey comfortable. Arrive in Tekapo for turquoise lake views and iconic landmarks. Afternoon is reserved for lakeside photos and an unhurried promenade. Evening is paced for stargazing opportunities when skies are clear.
Day 3 — Tekapo → Mt Cook region: Travel into the Mackenzie Basin with panoramic landscapes and glacial rivers. Check in near Mt Cook and choose an easy trail based on conditions and energy levels. Time is built in for slow scenic moments rather than rushing between stops. Evening is flexible for lodge dining and rest.
Day 4 — Mt Cook region → Wanaka: Start with a morning easy hike for glacier and mountain perspectives, then head toward Wanaka with scenic pauses. Arrive early enough to enjoy the lakeside promenade and local cafés. Optional short walks are included for different fitness levels. Sunset is reserved for the best lake viewpoints.
Day 5 — Wanaka → Queenstown: Enjoy a slow morning and depart when roads are quiet for a calmer drive. Stop at viewpoints en route and arrive Queenstown with time to settle in. Afternoon is open for lakefront exploration and short scenic lookouts. Evening options include relaxed dining or an early night depending on preference.
Day 6 — Queenstown at leisure: Keep the day fully flexible: choose optional jet boating, gondola and luge, or a wine-country drive. The itinerary provides timing tips to avoid peak crowds and maximise scenic windows. Families can opt for easy parks and lakeside cycling routes. Evening is free for shopping, dining and waterfront time.
Day 7 — Depart Queenstown: Wrap up with a calm morning, last-minute photos and a coffee stop. Return the vehicle with buffers for refuelling and paperwork. If time allows, add one final viewpoint for a farewell panorama. Depart smoothly with the journey neatly concluded.
Thanks for getting on board with JainVoyagers Group — we’ll be waiting to craft your next voyage with even more road stories, viewpoints and perfectly paced days.
